Competency Framework 2

The Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the USAID Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) launched the competency framework for Intensive Care Unit (ICU) healthcare providers. The framework aims to provide ICUs across the Kingdom with qualified medical staff capable of ensuring the provision of efficient and high-quality service within a multidisciplinary team. This effort is a direct response to the challenges Jordan’s health sector experienced during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic revealed a shortage of qualified, properly trained health personnel and a lack of accurate mechanisms to verify the competencies of workers in ICU units.
The MOH, with support from USAID through the Local Health Systems Sustainability Project, sought to develop the capabilities of workers in intensive care units via training and follow-up. The LHSS project also developed a general framework of technical competencies for the members of the ICU interdisciplinary team. This document is a reference that specifies the technical competencies and skills required for workers in these units.
