Enhancing the market systems for water conservation through digital practices

The ultimate objective behind WIT’s decision to apply the Market System Development approach is for the Project to leave behind a functioning and self-sustaining market system for water techniques and technologies in Jordan; a result of which would be more water saved and conserved. The Market System Development approach emphasizes the role of the local market actors – as individuals or in groups – as the initiators, funders, implementers, and owners of initiatives that aim to enhance the effectiveness of the underlying market systems. The role of WIT was to engage the local markers actors and to facilitate and support such market-driven initiatives through targeted strategic, technical, operational, and financial support.
In the digital development context – and given the market system challenges identified by the WIT Market Assessment, WIT’s remit under the Market System Development approach is to engage, support, and facilitate digital initiatives that are driven and advanced by local market actors. The following diagram outlines the spectrum of roles that WIT can take in to promote digital development in consideration of the Market System Development approach.
