Farmers Training Campaign - GTZ
Agriculture and Environment Review, Within the component ‘Efficient Water Resources Management in Irrigated Agriculture’ (WMIA) of
the Jordanian-German Water Program, gtz ,and JVA have published the ‘Guidelines for Reclaimed
Water Irrigation in the Jordan Valley’. The main recommendation of the guidelines is that farmers can
save an enormous amount of money by adjusting amount and type fertilizer to the real needs of the
plants. At the moment almost all farmers use two to four times more fertilizer than needed, as they do
not consider the nutrient contents in the irrigation water and the soil. In addition, they usually apply
more than the plant would need – to be on the safe side.
