This report addressed the increasing stress on groundwater resources by compiling existing data on groundwater resources and present preliminary analyses of this data to better understand the stresses and impacts caused by agricultural water use, the main user of groundwater. The analyses focused on both the quantity (water level) and quality (salinity)and use in the Jordanian Highlands and the Jordan Valley. The report analysed data from wells within the following target areas:
• Azraq groundwater basin (within Zarqa and Mafraq governorates).
• Amman Zarqa groundwater basin (within Mafraq governorate).
• Ramtha area within the Yarmouk groundwater basin (Mafraq and Irbid governorates).
• Northern Jordan Valley (within Irbid governorate).
• Southern Jordan Valley (within Balqa governorate).
• South of the Dead Sea (within Karak Governorate).
