According to the National Agenda, the unemployment rate in Jordan is around 14% but could reach the
alarming rate of 20% by 2015 should conditions remain the same. 40% of the Jordanian population is
economically active, which means that they are considered part of the workforce. The economically active
population is divided into 87% employed and 13% unemployed. The labor market in Jordan is characterized
by the dominance of well-educated Jordanian males and females, but limited in the supply of skilled
Jordanian labor, whose insufficiency is supplemented by the employment of foreign workers
