Plastic tanks market assessment

A market assessment to assessed the feasibility of plastic tanks as an alternative to the more expensive concrete tanks for rain water harvesting purposes. As part of technologies identification on the household level, WIT has proposed three types of technologies to consider for the pilot phase which includes rainwater harvesting, grey water reuse system and water saving devices.
Accordingly, WIT team also looked for other options such as plastic (polyethylene), galvanized steel, as well as fiberglass. While fiberglass can be a good replacement to the concrete storage tanks, yet the cost of this option is still relatively high or equitant to the concrete storage prices. As for the galvanized steel, they are strong and lightweight enough to be transported, however old or recycled metal tanks are not usable because they may contain lead, Bronze or brass fittings that can’t be used because of the risk of corrosion. In addition metal tanks cannot be installed underground.
