The production of fresh fruits and vegetables in Jordan has been, and still is, the nucleus of
income and development of the rural areas, where approximately one fifth of the Jordanian
population resides. The contribution of agriculture to GDP was approximately 3.8% in 2002,
and increased to a constant 4.1% between 2003–2005 and reversed back to 3.9% in 2006.
Due to its year-round warm climate, Jordan is able to export fresh fruits and vegetables year
round, giving it a competitive advantage over other markets
