RESIDENTIAL WATER USE EFFICIENCY GUIDE

Non-Agricultural water-use represents approximately 35
percent of the total fresh water consumption in Jordan. The
residential water-use accounts for around 87 percent, 86
percent and 29 percent of the non-agricultural billed water in
Amman, the Northern Governorates, and Aqaba, respectively1.
Water survey audits, residential end use metering, and pilot
water conservation programs conducted in Jordan show that
domestic water-users can achieve significant benefits from
water saving technologies and practices. This guide was
developed to help the residential sector to be water efficient.
It provides households, water utilities, developers, planners,
designers, and builders with water-use efficiency best
practices that apply to existing and new homes.
The guide presents a step by step process that explains
the reasons for saving water, where and how much water is
currently used, and where and how to save water. A list of
tips and technologies for best management practices for both
household consumers and utilities are provided for indoor
and outdoor domestic water-use. The guide also helps utility
consumers in identifying and fixing leaks, managing roof-top
water tanks and water storage, and monitoring household
water-use. It also offers opportunities to benefit from potential
alternative water sources such as harvested rainwater, gray
water, and treated wastewater.
