Conducting Community Engagement on Gender through Souk Takamol
A Learning Study of Souk Takamol as a model for grassroots activism on gender equality.
This case study examines what we can learn from the Souk Takamol experience about using small grants to develop and incentivize gender champions at the grassroots level. The case study was designed to demonstrate learning about promoting gender issues within communities as well as recommendations for how implementors can utilize small grants to seed activism beyond the well-established NGOs that are frequent recipients of funding in Jordan. To establish a framework for the study, Takamol used two levels to analyze the experiences of Souk Takamol grantees- change on a personal level (personal perceptions, attitudes, and relationships) and change on a professional level (integrating a gender lens to their community activism).
