Over the last decade, Jordan, along with ten other Mediterranean countries, benefited from
the highest growth rate in foreign tourism globally, accompanied by an additional increase in
domestic tourism. While tourism waned in 2011 as a result of the global economic downturn
and events associated with the Arab Spring, the sector remains strong with 20,000 tourism jobs
expected to be created over the next two years
