Irrigated Agriculture, Water Pricing and Water Savings in the Lower Jordan River Basin (in Jordan) - Reserach Report - IWMI

As part of the Comprehensive Assessment of Water Management in Agriculture conducted by the International Water Management Institute, this report examines the highlands and the Jordan valley, in order to establish the farming system typologies that illustrate the diversity of farms and farmers. The report analyses their respective strategies in the face of rising prices. By using regional farm and crop data, these strategies are aggregated to describe the likelihood of success of water pricing policies in terms of recovering operation and maintenance (O&M) costs, saving water and improving economic efficiency. Finally, this study explores some of the alternatives available for meeting these objectives. Published in 2007.
