Women’s Empowerment & Economic Empowerment in the Tourism Sector - Jordan Steering Committee Terms of Reference
"Women's employment demand in the Tourism sector is very low despite the high unemployment rates prevailing among women in Jordan. It is observed that women in Jordan are mainly concentrated in certain sectors that are offering limited job opportunities and unattractive employment conditions and wages.
The project seeks to address the following challenges:
• Negative social attitudes towards women's participation in the tourism sector;
• Insufficient information about potential job opportunities and work conditions;
• Lack of gender sensitivity of available educational programs; and
• Lack of access to policy making and professional networks." (Jordan Tourism Development Project II -JTD II-, 2009)
