An Analysis of Civic Engagement and Political Participation Programs of Organizations (Lana) - 2015

"’Lana’, meaning “Ours” in English, is a regional project implemented in Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan with the main objective of encouraging women and men to reject all forms of discrimination that give rise to gender inequality. Funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and OXFAM GB with ARDD-Legal Aid as the implementing partner, this analysis entails interviews with the leaders of over 20 community-based organizations who have initiated specific programs to advance a common goal of engaging young men and women in society and promote gender equality in Jordan. The study, published in 2015, aims to provide a micro-level analysis identifying the reasons and barriers responsible for a lack of engagement in public life, while concurrently exploring how to remove macro-level obstacles that hinder meaningful participation, acting in a local context. The ‘Lana’ project is expected to increase the meaningful participation within the community, particularly women, in the way decisions are made in their homes, in the community, and the wider society (both within the private and public spheres) with the aim of promoting gender equality".
